The spiel of unity is a bit of mission. Because when one person speaks of unity, there are about 100 people chopping at the poor man’s legs. Its a mission.
So, lo and behold I have conditioned and hardened my legs by kicking a tree everyday; I am going to speak about unity. But my purpose is to clarify what is meant by unity – not necessarily encourage although, I guess I will inevitably do so at some point.
Unity is a tricky thing. The moment you say, “brothers, sisters lets leave differences”, you have the inevitable, repeatedly rehashed petty arguments such as “akh, unity is with the Salaf(i)”, or “sidi Unity is on believing in mawlid”. Okay may be I’m satirising the issue, but hey I’m not exactly far from it either. “The Aqeedah needs to be sound before there can be unity”. Now this is a statement I have heard from loads of different groups. O, and lets not forget the “Khilafa can only bring unity” brigade. All fair dos and respect to all the perspectives.
