The Weeping of Abu Darda and Umar Radhialla’anhum

Saiful Islam

The way of the best generation is the best way. Something for us to read and in turn reflect upon our materialistic states.

As Amir al-Mu’mineen Umar Ibn al-Khattab Radhiall’anhu visited Shaam and investigated the condition of his subjects, he also saw how the Sahabah (Radhiall’anhum) lived. When he went to Abu Darda Radhialla’anhu, he knocked the door and said ‘Assalamu Alaykum. Quick came the response, ‘Wa Alaykum Assalam, who is it?’ He replied, ‘May I come in?’  Abu Darda Radhialla’anhu did not recognise him but said, ‘Do come in’.

He pushed the door and it slid back. Umar Radhialla’anhu went in and saw that the door had no latch at all. Inside, the room was dark and there was no lamp.  So he moved cautiously, feeling his way up to Abu Darda Radhialla’anhu and sat down beside him.  He felt for the bed but it was the earth and the pillow was what is placed on the camel.  The overall sheet was a thin piece of cloth.  Abu Darda Radhialla’anhu again asked ‘who are you? Are you the Ameer al-Mu’mineen?’  He replied, ‘yes’ and asked him if may help him in anyway.  But Abu Darda Radhialla’anhu gave the response of the patient ascetics: ‘O Umar, do you remember the words of Allah’s Messenger Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam that he had spoken to us?’ He asked, ‘which hadith?’

Abu Darda Radhialla’anhu narrated that the Prophet Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, ‘the provision of each of you must be like a traveler’s provision for the journey’.

Umar Radhialla’anhu said, ‘yes I remember it’.  Abu Darda Radhialla’anhu wept and asked, ‘O Umar, what have we done after him?’ Both of them wept until it was dawn.*

Apartheid Net of Notorious Netanyahu

Abdullah/Saiful Islam

The distorted perception of reality which the Israelis have is very well known. They clearly have their own definitions of morality as has already been shown on this blog a number of times (see here, here and here).

Continuing the demonstration of Israeli morality we have the Netanyahu rhetoric which typically depicts Israeli morality: vile.  From more land-grabbing from the thieves that are the Israelis to the flouting of International rulings and norms which has become so typical of the aparthied regime, there is nothing new in the speech which was not already happening on the ground.

An Intimate Conversation with Allah

June 15, 2009

Ibn Qudama al-Maqdisi, May Allah have mercy on him, the Imam, Faqih and exegete was born in Palestine in 541/1146.  A master in Hambali fiqh, he authored the nine volume al-Mughni in Hambali jurisprudence, which remains to this day one of the most central and relied upon works in the Hambali school.  He also did Jihad in the ranks of Salahudeen al-Ayubi’s (May Allah have mercy on him) army against the Crusaders.

Here we see his counsel and advice on matters of the heart and in this particular excerpt, he gives an example of how supplication should be made with utmost humility, weakness and submission, and enjoin in an intimate conversation with the Almighty.

What does Unity actually mean?

June 12, 2009

The importance of Unity. For one second don’t you dare think that this is a blog about unity. This is written for those in Islamic Societies and others who do work for this Ummah.

Importance of Unity? Let me give you this to start with. How can you believe in one Ummah the importance of one Ummah, when people go around cussing each other thinking they are on the Haq?

Want to know what this is about? This is about brothers and sisters who believe in unity and then behind the scenes with their inner circles they cuss others and have a real hate for people. Examples? People saying them dam Barelvi’s at it again, or the Salafia are from Najd. (Note how Shaykh Abdul Wahab’s name is not mentioned – I will not be the one on Qiyammah giving up my good deeds for taking his right away). Let me also say that I don’t mean that I write about the Barelvis or the Debandis and say about their Ulama. May ALLAH(SWT) give them what they deserve. I pray that ALLAH(SWT) forgives all the deceased of their sins and grants them Jannah.

They say actions speak louder than words.

Obama’s words sound promising to the Muslim world.  Many Muslims scholars and political analysts welcomed the change when Obama came to office.  The opening of dialogue with Muslims as a matter of policy is an immense change in American foreign policy. Or is it?

Many a time things are said but never followed through, and America has a notorious history of this characteristic.  The shackles of the Bush administration have been destroyed however the aftermath is one which has been quantifiably left unaltered in the wake of the “change” which suppose to have come with Obama’s administration.  He may be able to utter “Quran” with correct Tajweed, but his actions go against his advice to the Muslim world.
