Does the Delusion of the Dunya have you?

December 28, 2009

By Abdul Sami

It seems to be a growing trend amongst the Muslim youth to adopt Western trends and conform to societal norms without giving a second thought; this is common in both our brothers and sisters. Just because society says it is cool and fashionable to let your jeans hang down brothers will do it and sisters will wear the tightest of clothes to show every bit of their body figure to attract attention.
We need to take heed from this, is this not a minor sign of the Day of Judgment? It is mentioned in a Hadith that nearer the day of judgement a time will come when women will wear clothes but will appear naked (Muslim). Should we not reflect on this and realise the time is very near and if we do not change our ways now then we may never have the chance to change?

Superlative Israeli Morality – Stealing Children and their Organs

December 23, 2009

By Saiful Islam

Since my initial blog concerning the extremely high levels of morality demonstrated by the Israeli military, I have blogged about this laughable morality on numerous occasions. The watermark for Israeli military morality has moved on considerably since then.

It has been sometime since I have written on this topic in depth, mainly due to various time constraints and the fact that such a topic requires nerves of steel as well a cool mental acumen. As a result issues such as the UN Human Right Council approval of the Goldstone report which highlights the crimes perpetrated by Israel during the Gaza massacre, the court ruling that Jewish schools are racist in the context of their enrolment policy, Jewish terrorism actually being acknowledged by the BBC (!), and that Israel’s ethnic cleansing policy through destruction of Palestinians homes and the reconstruction of Israeli buildings on top continues unabated with the intention of making Jerusalem the capital of Israel, I have noticed but not commented upon.

However reports which are coming to light concerning Israel, children, organs and smuggling has forced me to put pen to paper, or rather fingers to keyboard. Initially reports mainly from Arab newspapers which were picked up by the Jewish media state that according to Interpol, children are being kidnapped by Jewish gangs and then being sold to American and Israeli jews for organ harvesting. As ever the veracity of such reports is questioned by the Western media, the same media who makes unverified claims that for instance, the Taliban are behind attacks in Pakistan. Nevertheless, the plot thickens – and what surfaces is more distressing than watching a sadistic horror movie as a 9 year old.

Imam Abu Da’ud (Rahimahullah) Adhering to the Sunnah

December 15, 2009

By Umm Khadija

Today, Muslims forgo a Sunnah because it is merely “just a Sunnah”, whereas the pious scholars used to adhere to anything they knew to be a Sunnah, because it was a Sunnah.  In other words, the excuse of something being a Sunnah was the reason for pious people to act upon it.  Imam Abu Da’ud as-Sijistani (d.275 A.H.) is the famous compiler of the Sunan, one of the six most authentic books of hadith.

See how important he regarded a Sunnah, and how strong his passion was to fulfill it.

The Niqab Saga Continues…

December 10, 2009

Saiful Islam

From the days of Jack Straw to the Shaykh Tantawi incident, much has been done by various quarters to exasperate the restriction on the freedom of women to… cover up.  Its “hot”, “steamy” and “raunchy” when women dress down and hence acceptable because it provides eye-candy for the male-elite, but that which any respectable woman with an inkling of modesty and honour would do which is to cover themselves and the media, nay, the political establishment come baring down on a minor section of the Muslim society.

The BBC article concerning the launch of the Saudi channel Awtan TV is a case in point.

Hasan al-Basri (Rahimahulla) and Pride/Vanity

December 7, 2009

Umm Khadija

Often the greatest sources of the downfall of mankind stems from his or her vanity and pride. From sisters comparing their clothing to scholars comparing their students and achievements, Shaytan’s most common trick is to delude a person into believing they are better than the others.  It is important that such pride be routed out of our hearts for as per the Hadith of the Prophet Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, a person with an atoms-worth of pride shall not enter Jannah.  The example below truly exemplifies how pride should be recognised and dealt with.

An incident occured with the student of the great Companion Ali (radhialla’anhu), the renowned ascetic, Imam Hasan al-Basri (Rahimahullah).
